Know Your Days of the Week with Rebecca Black

Please dont make him whine again!

It isn’t Holy Week… yet.

The week is already gone and yet this girl haven’t made up her mind whether she will sit on the front or the back seat. You may have known Rebecca Black by now and her cult song “Friday”. The song has received almost universally negative reviews, with some considering it to be the “worst song ever.” But for all of you who are living under the rock (good for you), here’s what Wikipedia has to say about her:

Thirteen-year-old Black, from Anaheim Hills, California, grew up as a fan of singers popular among tweens, such as Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber. An honor student, she has studied dance, auditioned for school shows, and attended music summer camps. She began singing publicly in 2008 after joining the patriotic group Celebration USA.

In late 2010, a classmate of Black and music-video client of Ark Music Factory, a Los Angeles vanity record label, told her about the company. Black’s mother, Georgina Kelly, paid Ark Music $4,000 for a song and accompanying video that included a choice of two pre-written songs; according to Kelly, the payment covered one half or less of the production costs of the music video, and Black’s family could have paid nothing in exchange for giving up all rights to the song. Black chose “Friday”, as “the other song was about adult love – I haven’t experienced that yet. ‘Friday’ is about hanging out with friends, having fun. I felt

like it was my personality in that song.” She subsequently stated that the other song was more specifically about being a boy’s superhero.Ark Music handled the song’s recording and production, extensively using the pitch-correcting software Auto-Tune. Although Kelly had some doubts over the quality of the lyrics, Black assured her that “I sang it as they wrote it, Mom.” “Friday” co-writer Patrice Wilson explained that “I wrote the lyrics on a Thursday night going into a Friday. I was writing different songs all night and was like, ‘Wow, I’ve been up a long time and it’s Friday.’ And I was like, wow, it is Friday!”

If you’ve seen the video, you may not view this again. But for some and out of curiosity, here’s the dreaded video:

FRIDAY by Rebecca Black

(Yeah, Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ark)
Oo-ooh-ooh, hoo yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah

[Rebecca Black – Verse 1]

7am, waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal
Seein’ everything, the time is goin’
Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta get down to the bus stop
Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (My friends)

Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?

It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend

[Rebecca Black – Verse 2]

7:45, we’re drivin’ on the highway
Cruisin’ so fast, I want time to fly
Fun, fun, think about fun
You know what it is
I got this, you got this
My friend is by my right
I got this, you got this
Now you know it

Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?

[Chorus]

It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend

[Bridge]

Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
Today i-is Friday, Friday (Partyin’)
We-we-we so excited

We gonna have a ball today

Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after…wards
I don’t want this weekend to end

[Rap Verse]

Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend

That does it. She really overkill the auto-tune, or the other way around? The rap part is evidently hideous. Despite of that, Chris Brown and Simon Cowell blurted out their support for this young lady, quoting:

…any song to do with the weekend annoys you. It reminds me of ‘Saturday Night’… It’s what we call a ‘hair-dryer song,’ a song girls sing into their hair dryers as they’re getting ready to go out. But the fact that it’s making people so angry is brilliant.

At the end of the day, it all lies to your ear drums.
